March 21st, 2016
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Our first show of 2016 is in the books, and what a way to kick off the new year for the family friendly Mid Atlantic Wrestling Alliance! The Ides of March was everything I hoped it would be and more. The fans in attendance saw BOTH the Tag Team and Heavyweight Championship change hands, with the Heavyweight Title bout being decreed a No Disqualification contest by yours truly at the request of both challenger and champion. It was quite a sight to behold. If you weren’t in attendance, folks, you missed out on MAWA history.
However, I’m not going to rehash events that will be covered in greater detail in our NEWS and RESULTS sections here on mawaprowrestling.com. There is, however, a personal issue that involved me at The Ides of March. I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to address the matter.
At the March 19th, 2016 show, an incident transpired between me and former MAWA Heavyweight Champion, Ed House wherein he was unappreciative of the promotional material our media department published to advertise The Ides of March event. For the sake of transparency, I will lay out in detail, what occurred in the lead up to our encounter.
Mr. House was initially booked to compete against Tommy Hourglass at The Ides of March and that was reflected in our initial promotional poster. However, we later received word that he
would be unable to compete. When our front office inquired as to why, Mr. House responded with a less than cordial reply, berating both his scheduled opponent and the MAWA fans. We reported it as follows:
“Former fan favorite, Ed House, has never failed to display his utter distain for the fans of the Mid Atlantic Wrestling Alliance ever since he joined the Master Plan under the guidance of ‘The Architect’ David Gumaer. He demonstrated his contempt once again after backing out of his scheduled match with Tommy Hourglass at the last minute. When pressed for a reason, House stated, ‘Tommy Hourglass is not worth my time. The idiot fans don’t deserve my talent.’”
Apparently, Mr. House took exception to our reporting that he was “backing out.” So much so, in fact, that he took it upon himself to confront me in the ring about it. Standing on a chair to tower over and intimidate me, our former heavyweight champion demanded to have his originally slated bout with Tommy Hourglass. Having learned from my last physical encounter with one of M.A.W.A.’s competitors, I tried my best to diffuse the situation through diplomacy. Unfortunately, like a typically bully, Mr. House never allowed me to explain the situation, and instead chose to insult me both professionally and personally, even going so far as to actually lay his hands on me, pushing me into the corner.
Tommy Hourglass quickly made his way to the ring, bringing an end to Mr. House’s assault of me, for which I am grateful. Mr. Hourglass agreed to meet Ed House one-on-one in the ring and I officially sanctioned the bout. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that Mr. Hourglass ended up defeated that night, but I do feel vindicated that Mr. House’s victory was cheapened by his use of a handful of tights. There will further vindication because, just as I was castigated for my poor conduct with Jason Havok back in April of 2013, Mr. House will be subject to punitive action for assaulting an executive officer of the Mid Atlantic Wrestling Alliance. Fines will be levied, Mr. House. Fines will be levied.
Through all of this, however, I think what bothers me the most is that I just simply don’t understand. Why do you have all this anger? From where did all this vitriol arise? At one time, Mr. House, you were beloved by the fans. You always played by the rules. The M.A.W.A. faithful considered you an inspiration, a hero. I considered you a friend. That’s no longer true, so it seems. You’ve changed. I just don’t understand why.
You vanished after MAWApalooza II. Despite our best efforts to contact you, you never returned our calls. When you did finally return, you did so covertly, impersonating Mighty Mo, doing everything in your power, with the aid of “Risky Business” Ronnie Raines, to tarnish Mo’s image. When you were finally unmasked, you joined forces with “The Architect” David Gumaer, becoming the loose cannon of his Master Plan. So were you ever really aligned with Mr. Raines at all, or were you just playing him for a sucker, too?
None of it makes any sense. You refuse to explain yourself. On the rare occasion you say anything, it’s only to show your contempt for the Mid Atlantic Wrestling Alliance, its fans and its leadership, myself included. What did we do to offend you so? Was it something I did?
I would love nothing more than to rectify this situation. That can only happen, Mr. House if there’s a dialogue. You, however, seem intent on burning bridges: with the fans, with Mighty Mo, with Mr. Raines, with me. Who’s next?
Before I end this Commission Report, I offer you one piece of advice, Mr. House: be wary of how many bridges you burn lest you find yourself all alone stranded on an island.
Respectfully Submitted,
Drew Templar
Commissioner, Mid Atlantic Wrestling Alliance
